OpenText Fax Appliance, Desktop Edition (formerly Captaris FaxPress) is a popular choice for small to medium-sized businesses or workgroups that are looking to integrate fax with a multi-function product (MFP) and provide users with the flexibility of network faxing.
Desktop Appliance includes OpenText FaxPress Plus for Fax Appliance, client and server software. The server software comes pre-installed on the unit and installing the client software is optional since the web interface allows access to both faxing and administrative functions from any workstation with a web browser.
Sending from a networked MFP provides hard-copy faxing or scan to desktop features for secure document processes. Users can even assign billing codes, access personal phonebooks, and determine notification preferences.
Desktop Appliance supports fax and email integration through an embedded email gateway that enables Microsoft Exchange, Lotus Notes, Novell GroupWise and SMTP-compatible email system users to send and receive faxes directly from their mail client.
OpenText Fax Appliance, Desktop Edition comes with a free Web Services SDK for developing custom fax applications. Sample clients, with source code provided, have been written in Java, C++, C#, Visual Basic, and Perl. The clients have been tested for full interoperability on multiple operating systems including MS Windows, Linux, MacOS, and standard Unix platforms.
